G'ma Harrington's 90th Birthday

Saturday was G'ma Harrington's 90th birthday and happened to be the day Kurt,  Denise and Alysa left for England to visit with Jill and Jayson.  We met for breakfast at Panera.  Mom was not expecting to see them again before they left.

Later in the morning we took her to Akron and visited the cemeteries of family
members.  We had talked of doing this in the past and to me this seemed to be an appropriate day to do it.  Mom enjoyed herself and we had beautiful weather.  It reminded me in some ways of the trip we took to Washington D.C. a couple of years before dad passed.

Mom's mother and father at Rose Hill Memorial Garden in Fairlawn.

Mom's maternal grandparents at Glendale Cemetery in Akron.  The cemetery is 175 years old this year.

G'ma's older sister also at Glendale, just across the drive from her grandparents.

On the way to the final stop we drove through downtown Akron and stopped for a beer and gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches at the Lockview Tavern, one of Karen's favorites.

Dad's parents at Holy Family Catholic Cemetery also in Akron.  Because his mother was not Catholic, they are buried in a special section of the cemetery for Catholics married to non-Catholics!

We finished off the day with a stop at Donzell's nursery a couple of miles east of Holy Family.  A couple of petunia pots in the back and we were headed home after a very pleasant day.
Happy Birthday Mom!

More Travel

I am still going through pictures from the trip west and it's like taking the trip all over again.  Not a bad thing.

This is a stairway from street-level down to a deck behind a store/residence in Jerome, Arizona.  Reminds me of my side of the basement!

Another lizard friend.  He resides  at Springs Preserve, a botanic preserve we visited one afternoon in Las Vegas.

Some non-reptilian pics from Springs Preserve.

Letting the bikes catch their breath after a ride to Hoover Dam and back.

Ordering some food and drink in Boulder City.

Still waiting for the bikes to catch their breath!

Lake Meade, still showing its bathtub ring.

Practicing the vertical crawl.

I miss my boat.

Seriously, I could climb that.

From a Distance

Not really "from a distance", but I loved this sculpture-
in the front garden of a Santa Fe gallery.

I could do a whole post of sky views!

 -

In Vegas, we went to a shopping area called The Container Park.
It was different and clever, but already really HOT.  Wondering how it will
fare as the temps head to their summer highs?
This "urban art" was across the parking lot.

Adam is supervising the cleaning crew for the Luxor.
I think he said the original window washing technology didn't work, so
now the rope access guys are giving it a try.
The wind has been too strong and there have been many more days
off the job than on, but in this picture you can see where the
work if done and not...

As noted many times, everywhere one looks there is a picture
waiting to be taken.  Even with a cell phone :-)

Amazing.

Mother Nature, the ultimate artist.

Shortly before we drive into the snow, I snapped this shot.
Along the road, set back, were a variety of
cottages, all of which were empty.  I was sure, if need be,
we could break in to one of them.

I loved seeing the wind farms.  They give me hope
for the future.

CLOSE UP

In Jerome one of the galleries we visited had these awesome pictures.
The artist was actually the gallery owner and explained that the photos were
enlarged photos of close-up found objects.
The photos below were inspired by his beautiful artwork.
I just used my cell phone and thought they turned out pretty good.
I think I took most of them at Mt. Charleston.
